12. Dingle Head

im Fernwesten Europas

in the Far West of Europe

Der runde Landbrocken im Hintergrund stellt das letzte bisschen Festland Europas im Atlantik dar. Danach kommen nur noch Island, kleinere  Inseln und dann Amerika.
Im Vordergrund graßen ungerührt ein paar Schafe auf altertümlichen Weiden. Jahrtausende haben sich diesem Land eingeprägt, hier in Form von steinernen Rundhütten, überall auf Dingle anzutreffen, und uralten Steinmauern.

In the foreground a few sheep graze on wet fields. The millennia have put their stamp on the Dingle peninsular countryside here in the form of ancient stone huts and walls.

John opfert sich mal wieder, um den Eingeborenen darzustellen, oder um einen Maßstab zu geben für Größenverhältnisse. Erstaunlich ist, wie wenig über den genauen Verwendungszweck und das Alter dieser "Cochlair" genannten Steinhütten bekannt ist: Zuerst Mönchsklause, dann Schäferhütte?

I am again the one who has to pose to show the size of a stone structure, this time one of the stone huts called Cochlair, whose age and purpose is not known with any certainty. Monks refuge or hut for sheep?

Man stelle sich diesen Achterbahn-Weg bevölkert vor mit Schafen, an der Spitze ein Schäfer, mit zwei radschiebenden Touristen sprechend. Kennt noch jemand dieses Werbephoto?
Wir haben lange nach dieser Stelle gesucht. Die Schafe waren aber wohl längst wieder auf dem Festland, die Touristen in ihrer Heimat.

Imagine this steep switch-back path full of sheep, with the shepherd at the front talking to two tourists pushing their bicycles. Do you know the magnificent photo?
For a long time we have hoped to find the spot and here it is, although sheep and tourists are long since on other grazing grounds.
